    Improving Efficiency
Van Fleet World - Editor: John Kendall

Pointer Telocation was included in an article on telematics & tracking, entitled Improving Efficiency, in the February 2009 issue of VAN Fleet World.

Israel Ronn is General Manager of the Cellocator Products Division of Pointer Telocation, which has a partnership with Tracker in the UK.  He highlighted some other ways that telematics can make savings.  By using the vehicle’s CANBUS on board electronic communication system, it is possible to measure the level of fuel in the tank when the engine is switched off and then checked when it is switched on again.  If the level in the tank is significantly different it could indicate that fuel is being stolen.  This can be checked against fuel consumption monitoring because any removal of fuel will also affect the fuel consumption reading.

Israel points to geofencing too – another capability which enables a telematics system to identify specific locations, such as depots.  It enables monitoring of the arrival and departure times.  It can also show if a vehicle is moved out of working hours.”
